I've been doing a lot of online shopping lately (mostly window shopping) and found out there is a shop that sells powders. Various types of powders including food grade powders. I always want to buy different types of food powders that can dye my food in a more natural way instead of those food gel/food clouring.
When comes to those 'natural food powders' it always costs you quite expensive and has to buy in bulk. I kinda hesitate since I don't do a lot of baking that requires me to make it cute or pretty. I'm a simple and lazy person. If you want me to make something that needs effort, I need a plan and a lot of thinking. Of course, when you scroll through Instagram with people posting something amazing cartoonish/vibrant food/dessert, I am very anticipating trying it my own. And one more reason is that I always mess up something during the process. It may look good in the beginning then something was missing out or taste bad at the end.
Well since there is an 8.8 sales on that day and the shop was having a discount price as well as those member points that I have, I decided to purchase it. Luckily, the shop can buy in a small amount at a reasonable price.
After a few days of waiting, the powders have arrived. I'm still thinking about what is the best way to try out the powders. Cartoonish steam bun? Cookies? Cakes? As a result, I'm testing it on cookies. The fastest way the prepare.
The powders that I tested out was Strawberry, Purple potato, Pumpkin, Blue Butterfly Pea Flower, Red Yeast Rice, Coffee, Chocolate, Matcha, Black sesame, and plain. A total of 10 flavors. I'm not going to post out the recipe since I refer from someone else recipe and I need to readjust the recipe to my preference.
This experiment is a half fail half success. Some taste good, some taste bad. To be fair, it was my mistake of thinking that I need a lot of food powder since there is a lot of dough. When you divided the dough into 10 portions which are actually not a lot. Besides, the laziness in me, I just don't want to scoop back the powders to where it belongs and I still dump all in even that I know it is kinda too much to put in the first place.
Some of the cookies taste too strong that the after taste becomes bitter. The cookies with cocoa powder and the coffee still considering okay but the red yeast rice powder is so salty to where the after taste becomes bitter. I've underestimated the red yeast rice powder. Lesson learn today huh. Within all those flavors the strawberry is the winner, a little sour, and sweet taste. The others are okay. Not a very distinctive flavor to my own preference but still considering a nice cookie.
One more thing to add is that the baking process. I forgot to put in the thermometer into my oven so I'm kinda lost what the temperature is and the flavor of the overall cookie (plain) needs to improve a little (recipe). I find that the cookies are a little bland and it needs more buttery taste or adding some milk powder in it.
